The 2012 GA IASIU Seminar will be held on March 8, 2012 at the Cobb Galleria Centre (Two Galleria Parkway Ballroom B Atlanta, Georgia 30339). The Seminar will begin at 7:30 am and will contain a morning session, a working lunch, and an afternoon session that will end at approximately 3:30pm.
All members of the GA IASIU and any member of the International IASIU as well as law enforcement personnel may attend the seminar. Authorized participants may sponsor claims personnal from their company.

Mike Bagley is the immediate past Chair of the Board of Directors of Drew, Eckl & Farnham. He
practices in the areas of workers' compensation and property insurance. A graduate of Emory
University, he received his law degree from the University of Georgia. He has tried hundreds of
cases in virtually every county in Georgia. Mr. Bagley is a frequent lecturer and prolific author.
He has co-authored seven editions of the Chamber of Commerce Desk Reference Manual and is
a contributing author to Insuring Real Property. For over 20 years, Mr. Bagley has been a
contributing author to the Mercer Law Review Annual Survey of Georgia Law, and he has edited
all 125 plus editions of the DEF JOURNAL since its inception in 1988. He has held numerous
positions in the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association,
including Chair of the Property Insurance Committee, Chair of the Annual Meeting
Arrangements Committee, Chair of National Programs and Chair of the Public Relations
Commission. He also served as Chair of the Task Force on Lawyer Advertising, Chair of the
Formal Advisory Opinion Board and Chair of the Workers' Compensation Section of the State
Bar of Georgia, as well as Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Federation of Defense and
Corporate Counsel. Mr. Bagley was honored by James Magazine as one of the top 150 lawyers in
Georgia and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer every year since the inception of that honor.

Karen Karabinos has an active first party property litigation practice specializing in representing
insurance companies and corporations in state and federal courts, handling all types of coverage
issues as well as fraud and arson claims. An honors graduate from Auburn University, she
received her law degree from Walter F. George School of Law, also with honors. She is a
member of both the Georgia and Texas Bar Associations, the Tort and Insurance Practice section
of the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Southern Loss Association,
and Metro Fire Investigation Association. She is the vice president of the Metro Fire
Investigator’s Association, where she has been a frequent speaker. She is a frequent contributor

Chris Sechrest has overall responsibility for managing a staff of estimators and project managers. He
works directly with insurance companies on insurance related damage and property owners on noninsurance

throughout his company. Prior to assuming his current role, he was a Property Unit Manager with
Travelers Insurance where he managed the day to day property claims functions. He also was

Rick Hammond is an Equity Shareholder with the Chicago law firm of Johnson & Bell, Ltd, and he cochairs
the firm’s Insurance Coverage Group. He concentrates his practice on matters relating to property
insurance coverage, arson and fraud; and bad faith litigation.
He’s the past President of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, formerly served on the
faculty and Board of Directors of the Insurance School of Chicago, and is a columnist for the
International Association of Special Investigative Units’ magazine, “SIU Awareness”. He also serves as
General Counsel for a national insurance trade association, the Insurance Committee for Arson Control.

Mr. Markushewski earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Philadelphia’s Spring
Garden College and attended Pennsylvania State University for graduate courses in Engineering Science.
Mr. Markushewski is highly qualified as a crashworthiness engineer. He has established a distinctive
career in the field of crashworthiness, occupant crash protection emergency escape, crash safety and
survival, and life support engineering. His extensive experience focuses on research, design, test and
evaluation of aircraft and vehicular seating systems, restraint systems, inflatable restraints, ejection
seats, crashworthy seating systems and protective devices. As a result of demonstrated leadership in
this area, he has held the positions of project engineer, team leader, systems engineer and project
manager of significant occupant protection system design, development and test programs responsible
for project progress from inception through completion. He has prepared and established program and
hardware technical and performance specifications and manuals for many programs. Mr. Markushewski
has acted, and currently acts as lead investigator and mishap reconstructionist for military and civilian
aircraft and automotive ground vehicle mishaps to evaluate occupant protection system performance
and evaluate and determine mechanisms of injury. Because of his experience and knowledge in the
occupant crash protection area, Mr. Markushewski has been designated as a Subject Matter Expert
(SME) on seating and restraint system design and performance by the United States Army.
As a result of his in-depth knowledge and experience, Mr. Markushewski is a recognized leader in the

Mike Bresnock is a Senior Investigator at Transportation Technology located in Marietta, GA. The
company provides investigative services to insurance companies and law firms in the southeast. With an
associate degree in Automotive Technology, BS degree in Engineering and a Master ASE Certified
Technician, Mike is able to consult with clients in a variety of fields to help define origin and cause of

Dr. Tsoumanis is a 2007 graduate in Biomedical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Dr. Tsoumanis’s primary areas of consulting expertise include injury causation biomechanics, vehicle accident reconstruction, and medical device failures. Dr. Tsoumanis performs biomechanical analysis on cases involving low-speed accidents, driver determination, falling objects, slip/trip and falls. He has reconstructed accidents involving high-speed fatality collisions, pedestrian accidents, vehicle rollovers and has evaluated failures of medical and rehabilitation devices. Take Exit 258 (formerly Exit 108A) - Cumberland Boulevard.* At the end of the exit ramp turn left at the traffic light onto Cumberland Boulevard. At the second traffic light turn right onto Cobb Galleria Parkway, heading north. Continue on Cobb Galleria Parkway to the second traffic light at Akers Mill Road. Turn left onto Akers Mill Road. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Cobb Parkway (also known as U.S. highway 41). At the second traffic light turn right onto Galleria Drive. If Traveling Westbound or Southbound on 1-285:
Take Exit 20 (formerly Exit 14) - Dobbins Air Force Base and Cobb Parkway or U.S. Highway 41 Exit. Continue exiting in the lane marked "Cobb Parkway." At the end of the exit ramp make a left turn at the traffic light, heading south on Cobb Parkway. Continue under the overpass and make a left turn at the second traffic light onto Galleria Drive; the first entrance on the right is Cobb Galleria Centre's main (rotunda) entrance and drop off area. Additional parking may be found at the second and third rights and in the 100 Building parking deck.

The 2010 GA IASIU Seminar will be held on March 18, 2010 at the Cobb Galleria Centre (Two Galleria Parkway Ballroom B Atlanta, Georgia 30339). The Seminar will begin at 7:30 am and will contain a morning session, a working lunch, and an afternoon session that will end around 2:30pm.
All members of the GA IASIU and any member of the International IASIU as well as law enforcement personnel may attend the seminar. Authorized participants may sponsor claims personnal from their company. |
Advanced registration is $40.00 and will include an ala carte breakfast, handouts, and a boxed lunch. Advanced registration is due by March 1, 2010. Registration at the door will be $55.00.
